CRUDE ACCOUNTABILITY FILMS

Crude Accountability invites you to head over to YouTube to watch our short video Berezovka: A Town that Suffers because of World Bank Inaction.  Featuring recent interviews with residents of Berezovka, this video offers a glimpse into the uphill battle that the villagers face in their efforts to hold the World Bank’s International Finance Corporation (IFC) accountable for non-compliance with its own environmental standards at the neighboring Karachaganak Oil and Gas Condensate Field. (November 2009)

While you're on YouTube, you can also view our 5-minute film Silence is Betrayal…Voices from a Village, a look at how the villagers of Berezovka, Kazakhstan are risking their lives to meet the world’s demand for fossil fuels.  As Mark Warford, Director of Silence is Betrayal, explains “The brave struggle by the people of Berezovka, Kazakhstan to save their village and culture serves as a strong reminder that pointing to fluctuating weather trends as the primary cause for social displacement belies the true cause of the disintegration of these communities - a global dependence on fossil fuels.” (December 2008)
